Portrait Photo Session – 3 Outfits

Setting up a themed photo session is great fun. It enables the creative juices to flow. Here I will be looking back at a portrait photo session I worked on a short while ago. My model selected three outfits, the first of which had a somewhat sexy theme. Then, a flowing blue dress encouraged the use of a smoke machine. Finally a smart secretary inspired outfit bought out some office props.

Home Studio

All in all, the themed portrait photo session was a bit of fun experimenting with ideas in a casual, comfortable home environment. For this session I used wireless controlled “off camera” speed-lights. Mounting one speed light in a soft box and another on a “shoot through” umbrella. I like to include the environment in the background rather than just a plain studio type backdrop.

I prefer to photograph people in location environments rather than a studio type shoot with various backdrops. This can present problems with surrounding distractions showing up in the background. Also, the control of lighting can be a challenge. However, I think the end result is an image which has a real story to it.
